What is baby wearing and why is it a good thing?
Baby wearing is when you wear you baby in a sling or carrier while they are awake and laying them in their crib to sleep so you can tend to your needs.
There are so many benefits. Babies cry less when carried with a parent. They learn more as they are more alert and cry less. A babies gestation period is really 18 months. Birth occurs and interrupts the cycle however, baby wearing can extend that period by providing an external regulating system. Sling babies are also humanized sooner and statistically smarter.
Baby wearing also has benefits for breastfeeding!
The unorganized sucker gets more organized. It helps mom care more easily for siblings and makes breastfeeding easier (especially in a slingpea).
This next one is especially important to me....baby wearing of premature infants! As you may or may not have read my LO was a growth restricted preemie! I began the process of baby wearing as soon as we got home and she was a little over 4 pounds!
Preemies are often very small and sometimes fail to thrive and by baby wearing provides a therapeutic way to stimulate thriving! It also helps normal babies who gain weight too slowly. Baby wearing especially kangaroo care also helps regulate a baby's temperature. Baby wearing provides a calm environment similar to the womb and therefore allows an infants energy to be used to grow instead of to cry to convey one's needs.
Now the review!!!!
This sling is made by Beth at slingpea.com. Beth is a hardworking momma of 2! She has been sewing since she was a teen and loves it! She created her first sling after her first baby! These slings are super stylish, convenient, and easy to use. They roll up and fit in the diaper bag so you will never be without it! They are made of Cotton/ Lycra Sateen and Twill. This combination allows them just the right amount of stretch! This sling has a versatility uses! It works not only as a sling but also as a cover for dirty changing tables or the grass/benches if at a park, it works as a pillow for kids who nap in strollers, and it can provide a discrete nursing cover!
The slingpea sling can also help with traveling by eliminating the needs for bulky strollers and freeing your hands for picture taking. It allows busy parents to still enjoy their vacation while also tending to the needs of any child up to 35 pounds! For me this was great! We went to an aquarium where no strollers where permitted and my LO loves to take off. I put her in the sling pea and she was able to enjoy all the exhibits while being calm and cuddling with momma! I have used my sling as a changing pad many of times and also as a pillow as mentioned above! I could not imagine life without my sling! My daughter loves to get in it and help push shopping carts or get a piggyback from momma. Another added bonus is that cold and flu season is coming and people will keep a safe distance from a LO in a carrier or sling yet if they were in a stroller often people feel they need to touch your baby or toddler! I loved wearing Maddy last year in cold and flu season as no one came close to her!
This sling is GREAT! It doesn't put strain on your back like most traditional carriers or wraps. Your child is seated and supported right on your hip with the sling extending around your upper body to help more evenly disperse the weight! I have used all carrier types and I must say that I am most comfortable with the hip slings! Please see the website for the do's and dont's as well as the many different ways to carry and infant birth to 35 pounds!
You can purchase this amazing hip sling from Slingpea for $34.95 and free shipping PLUS if you enter maddy15 in the notes to Beth at check out you will get 15% back through paypal. What a deal! Don't miss out as cold and flu season is coming and help protect your little ones by keeping them close!

ReplyDeleteI learned that you can use this sling up until 35 lbs.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on facebook (c morgan)
ReplyDeleteI learned that the seam should be centered under the baby's bottom
ReplyDeleteI love babywearing with my stretchy wrap, but it's too hot here! This sling would be so much cooler.
ReplyDeleteI learned you can back carry with this sling! I didn't know that. That's awesome!

I love CDing
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
Hubby thinks we have too many CDs...I think he is nuts.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
His favorite kind is the pocket diaper
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My favorite is the AI2
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
But, we also have prefolds and fitteds.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
Prefolds for nap, fitteds for overnight or long time out
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I just love how absorbent fitteds are
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
But I love how easy a AI2 is
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My fav AI2 is SoftBums with snuggli bebe as a close second
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My fav pocket is TweedleBugz and BG 4.0
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My fav fitted is Wee Expressions
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My fav cover is the custom wool covers from TarynStuff
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My first CDs were BG 3.0s
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I don't have them anymore because DS learned how to take of the aplix
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
so we switched to all snaps
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
well, not all snaps...I have G-diapers and SoftBums
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I love them too much to get rid of them
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
But I am loving my Flips right now due to the whole family being ill
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
More on my stash tomorrow! :-D
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I would love to try a sling, but currently love using my mei tai.
ReplyDeleteI made a wipe solution using aloe from my aloe vera plant and water...seems to work.
ReplyDeleteI am mainly using pocket diapers, but would like to try some other types.
ReplyDeleteI didn't start cding until my daughter was 2 months old, so I would like to try and start earlier with maybe some prefolds and covers for my next child.
ReplyDeleteI currently have mainly bumgenious and definetly like the 4.0 better than the 3.0
ReplyDeleteMy stash is mainly aplix right now and I am nervous about the later stages and I hope that I won't have to convert to snaps.
ReplyDeleteI love being a stay at home mom, but I find that I have less time to do things than when I was working full time...
ReplyDeleteCDing is very overwhelming....I am still not use to all of the jargon that comes along with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which is more addicting the dipes or the cd blogs.
ReplyDeleteSince I decided to cloth diaper mainly for $ purposes, I can only try out things if I win them since I don't have the extra cash to play around with.
ReplyDeleteI have one Happy Heiny dipe that I am trying to trade for another dipe. It was only used once but wasn't a good fit for us.
ReplyDeleteI really wasn't aware that baby wearing had so many benefits. I like doing it because it discourages strangers from touching my child. The stroller doesn't have this affect.
ReplyDeletejust noticed there is now a 4th mandatory entry so I now follow slingpea-baby-slings on FB and told Beth you sent me and thanked her for this awesome giveaway.
ReplyDeleteYou pretty much covered everything!! I did see the pictures of the different ways to carry, and (being bigger busted) would like to try the hip carry. It seems to let them sit higher up, so maybe the boobage wouldn't get in the way. :-) lol

I have used a stretchy wrap and back carrier, but never a sling, and it looks great. Especially for the hot summers where this would be a lot cooler and more breathable!
ReplyDeleteI love my snap diapers!!
ReplyDeleteI would really like to try some rockin' green or lulu's on all of the clothes and diapers. Haven't quite convinced the man person yet. :-)

I love all owl/bird stuff and I'm super excited about trying Grovia now that they have an owl print coming out in December...lol.
ReplyDeleteI found some flannel with owls and apples on it that is so cute...almost seems wrong to use it to make cloth wipes to wipe baby's bum.
ReplyDeletemade some of the cloth wipes from the owl fabric...turned out super cute.
ReplyDeletetraded my Happy Heiny diaper for a Fuzzibunz. Really excited to try it.
ReplyDeleteCow Patties Cloth diapers is having an auction tonight and they have lots of cute dipes up for auction.
ReplyDeleteI never really was a "baby person", but my baby is just so adorable...turning into one of those people I use to raise my eyebrows at...lol
ReplyDeleteThe more I think about flying home for the holidays, the more I think this sling would be perfect for the flight.
ReplyDeleteflying seems a little overwhelming for a new mom like me.
ReplyDeletesomething about being a mom makes me want to do stuff like sewing and cooking...why?
ReplyDeleteI love watching my litte one sleep...so precious.
ReplyDeleteBeing a mom helps me eat better and frankly live better because I want to set a good example for my daughter.
ReplyDeleteCloth diapering is kind of like a gateway drug...it opens the door to tons of addicting things...eg. cloth diapering blogs.
ReplyDeleteSo, I sold a bunch of CDs!
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
And then I bought other CDs with it!
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
LOL, that is addiction.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I had to get flip inserts to use on g-diaper (g-cloth is TOOOOOO expensive)
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
And I also got fitted diaps...I love fitteds.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I think I already talked about how much I love fitteds....but I am not sure
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I am a very attached parent
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
My son is 14 (almost 15) months old and I still baby wear
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I just stopped nursing at 12 months
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
He was biting too much! I wanted to go until 18 months.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
We also co-sleep for the first 9 months
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I LOVE CO-SLEEPING!!!
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I am hoping that next time around I can get an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper for safer co-sleeping
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
Did anyone else here co-sleep?
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
How did you do it safely?
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
Our son sleep in between us and we only used sheets.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
The pillows concerned me more then the blankets did though.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
hmmm, running out of things to say....CDing....I love CDing!
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I am hoping to try different kinds of CD laundry detergent soon.
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I have been hand washing with Purex Free and Clear (to make sure I don't have buildup with it)
ReplyDeletexxcoco86xx2003 at yahoo dot com
I learned that they have many different fabric prints and 6 different sizes to fit all kinds of shapes and personalities!

I could have used this sling with my son when he was younger. I used a ring sling when he was an infant, but he never felt secure when I wore him on my hip with the ring sling. This sling makes the hip carry look so easy! Anxious to try it out with my new baby when he gets old enough!

@ Nicki - wow at handwashing. I'm planning to try Rockin Green first...I have some samples on the way.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started cloth diapering yet, because my baby won't be here til February. So far my stash is small - just a Grovia and a Kissaluvs that I have won. I plan to purchase some prefolds and covers soon.
ReplyDelete@ Nicki - I am expecting to like AI2's best, too. The idea of stuffing a pocket doesn't sound fun to me. I like the idea behind g-diapers, Flips, and Grovia AI2's best. I hope to be able to do some experimenting to find what works best!
ReplyDeletebrandielam3 at gmail dot com
@Nicki re: co sleeping. I co slept with my first two babies. I honestly didn't mean to, really, but I would just fall asleep while nursing and it just became a habit. My mom coslept with all my siblings and so safety was not a concern for me...the only concern was making sure we weren't cosleeping at 5 years of age (like lots of my siblings did!). We had a comforter and baby slept in the crook of my arm - I was very in tune with the baby so I was never concerned about rolling over on the baby.
ReplyDeletebrandielam3 at gmail dot com
But I am not sure if I will co-sleep with this baby. I have been diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's disease (before getting pregnant) and I am always tired...more so than a normal new mom. I sleep much more heavily, and my limbs often flail in my sleep. I kick my husband on accident a lot, sadly! So I don't think our bed is safe for a baby anymore. I'll keep baby in a bassinet next to the bed. I think I'm going to miss co sleeping. But I plan to nurse and baby wear a lot during the day - hopefully that extra cuddly time during the day will make up for the lack of attachment at night.
ReplyDeletebrandielam3 at gmail dot com
@Cali - several years ago, I flew with my then 20 month old daughter and my then 3 month old son (by myself). The sling was a lifesaver for me. I was able to wear him through security, which was nice. I also was able to have my hands free to secure the car seat for my daughter to the airplane seat. Without the sling, I'm not sure where I would have laid the baby while I did that! He was also a pretty fussy baby, but he never cried while in the sling. Keeping him in the sling gave me plenty of time to deal with my toddler, who did not think that flying was much fun at all! It also made nursing easier - hard to get privacy on an airplane!
ReplyDeleteI traded my Happy Heiny for a Fuzzibunz to try.
ReplyDeleteexcited to try the fuzzibunz
ReplyDeletebought a cute dipe at the cow patties auction.
ReplyDeletethe dipe has little turkeys on it that say gobble gobble. will be perfect to have during the next few months when we have no cding visitors for the holidays. so cute...how can you not cd?
ReplyDeletemy baby hasn't started to laugh yet...does that mean as a mom I don't laugh enough? She smiles tons but waiting for that first laugh is torture...lol
ReplyDeleteI've been starting to preview baby einstein and videos like that through netflix, but does anyone have particular ones their little ones love?
ReplyDeleteGroVia is having a giveaway!!!! Check it out!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.facebook.com/#!/GroViaDiaper
My hubby thinks we have enough cloth dipes, is there really such a thing? lol.
ReplyDeleteI am learning alot about wool on The Cheap and Choosy blog.
ReplyDeleteI cosleep but my hubby doesn't want to do it for too long...we will see.
ReplyDeleteI'm shy, so I tend to go to somewhere private, like my car, if I am breastfeeding in public.
ReplyDeleteI am almost done making my own cloth wipes and I have to admit they are easier than I thought.
ReplyDeleteI tried using a moses basket close to our bed instead of co-sleeping, but I could barely sleep with how many times I would check on her.
ReplyDeleteLike niki I also want to try an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper
ReplyDeletebeing a mom never ceases, so I must go to be a mom...lol
ReplyDeleteI made some homemade wipes from old baby towels and old t-shirts. Excited to try them out. I can't sew, so I have no idea how long they will last before they start to fray. I want to order some cute ones online from some etsy shops I've found or maybe try the Thirsties fabs wipes. I'd like to have some nice ones for when we are out or traveling and use my crude homemade ones only at home.
ReplyDeleteMy husband likes cloth diapering for the cost savings most of all...and so I'm having trouble justifying the cute diapers that I "need"!
ReplyDeletebrandielam3 at gmail dot com
I saw a cool product today meant to make breastfeeding in public easier . It's called a babybond. It basically fits over your breast, both under and over, and just gives an opening enough for the baby to latch on and eat! It looks so great and easy to use. I hate covering up with blankets all the time, especially during the summer, and this looks like a great solution to maintaining modesty while still allowing the baby's head to remain uncovered. Can't wait to order one!
ReplyDeletebrandielam3 at gmail dot com
Speaking of addictions, cloth diapering is not the only thing that is addictive! Slings are addictive, too! I have found several new ones I "need" to try out lately!
ReplyDeletebrandielam3 at gmail dot com
I'm looking for good wipe solution recipes, if anyone knows of any good ones, please send them my way!
